February 1985, Det. Shuman and Trooper Ronald Graves traveled nearly 300 miles to Worcester, Massachusetts to see Paul Pollard when Shuman knew he was losing his arson/murder case against Richard Sargent, Roger Johnson and William Myers. His only witness had gone to Richard Sargent's attorney's office and told him that Shuman had told her the story she told the grand jury and that she had committed perjury. Shuman was upset with Richard's attorneys for causing him to lose his arson/murder case. Shuman was now seeking revenge and determined to get information on Richard Sargent.

Witnesses: MSP Trooper Ronald Graves and Officer M. Jane Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh told me that Shuman brought Pollard to the Worcester, PD to speak to him about drugs being given to young people in the Bangor area and that he didn't mention murder.
